When equipped with appropriate software, the iPad has been shown to be an excellent substitute for traditional augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) (sv: alternativ och kompletterande kommunikation, AKK) devices. However, the flexibility and power of the iPad allow for using it in ways that go well beyond single-focus AAC tools. We will see how to use the SAMR model to create frameworks and processes for designing and reaching these more ambitious goals. We will also examine a related research framework, developed in the context of a project for speech-language support for children with autism.
